Fintech and payment adverts we read mentioned payment APIs, webhooks and reconciliation directly. The details differ between providers, but the shape of the work is the same everywhere.
The flow
- Fuseini taps "Pay GHS 50" in Mariama's app.
- Your server creates a
paymentsrow with statuspendingand a unique reference, then asks the provider to charge his number. - The provider sends a prompt to Fuseini's phone. He approves it with his PIN, or ignores it.
- The provider calls your webhook URL with the result.
- Your server verifies the webhook, updates the payment to
paidorfailed, and only then marks the order paid.
The key idea: the initial request does not mean the money moved. The payment stays pending until a trusted result arrives.
