Every small business that sells online needs photos: the boutique's new dresses, the restaurant's menu, the phone shop's accessories, a church's harvest event. Adverts for content creators and photographer roles in Ghana often combine photography with video, and many clients judge you first by a few strong pictures. Good product and people photos are one of the quickest ways to earn from your phone.
Product photos that sell
- Simple background. A plain wall, a clean cloth or a large sheet of card. The product should be the only thing to look at.
- Soft daylight. Place the product near a window or in open shade, not in direct midday sun, which creates harsh shadows. Turn off the flash.
- Several angles. Front, side, top and a close up of details such as stitching or a label. Online buyers cannot touch the product, so photos do the work.
- Show scale and use. A bag on a shoulder, earrings next to a hand or a bowl of food with a spoon helps buyers understand size.
- Keep colours true. If a dress is wine red, the photo must show wine red. Customers who receive something different stop trusting the shop.
Portraits and people
- Stand your subject in soft light facing a window or in open shade.
- Focus on the eyes; tap on them before taking the picture.
