Why this matters
Most junior security jobs advertised by Ghanaian telcos and banks centre on the same duties: monitor security events and alerts, analyse incidents, respond and escalate, and run vulnerability assessments. Some Ghanaian banks run their own security operations centres and organise analysts in levels, with Level 1 analysts watching alerts and Level 2 analysts handling escalations. This section is the heart of the analyst role.
Prevention is never perfect
However good the protection, something will eventually get through: a staff member clicks a link, a supplier is hacked, a new weakness is found in common software. Organisations therefore plan to detect problems quickly and respond in a controlled way. The faster an attack is spotted, the less damage it does.
The four topics in this section
- Logs and monitoring: the records systems keep, and how to read them for signs of trouble.
- SOC work and alert triage: how a security operations centre (SOC) uses tools such as a SIEM to collect alerts, and how Level 1 analysts decide which are real.
- Incident response: the calm, step by step process used once an attack is confirmed, including Ghana's reporting duty under the Cybersecurity Act.
- Vulnerability management: finding and fixing weaknesses on systems the organisation owns before attackers use them.
