Next.js appeared in several of the adverts we studied, both in Accra and remote roles. It is a framework built on React that adds routing, server rendering and data loading. This topic is optional: you can get a junior role knowing React and TypeScript well, but Next.js knowledge makes you a stronger candidate.
What it adds to React
Plain React runs in the browser. The phone downloads JavaScript, runs it, and only then shows the page. Next.js can do much of that work on the server, so the phone receives ready HTML.
- Routing from folders. In the
appfolder, each folder is part of an address, and apage.tsxfile inside makes it a page.app/menu/page.tsxbecomes/menu. - Server components. By default, pages and layouts run on the server. Their code is not sent to the phone, only the result.
- Client components. Components that need state or event handlers start with the line .
