Writing an app that works on your phone is one thing. Shipping an app that works for hundreds of strangers, on many kinds of phones and networks, is another. The difference is quality work: testing, careful debugging, attention to size and speed, and a proper release process. Ghanaian and remote adverts we read asked for testing, performance optimisation and Play Store release experience, including a junior role. This section covers all three.
Why quality matters so much on mobile
On the web, you can fix a bug and every user gets the fix the next time they load the page. Mobile is different:
- Users must download an update to get your fix, and many update rarely, especially on limited data.
- A crash or a slow first screen often leads straight to an uninstall, and you may never know why.
- Store reviews are public. A few angry one star reviews can put off new users.
- Phones vary widely: screen sizes, Android versions, memory and storage.
So it pays to catch problems before release, not after.
What this section covers
- Testing and debugging. Unit tests for logic, widget tests for screens, and using the debugger and Flutter DevTools instead of guessing.
- App size and speed on slow networks. Measuring release builds, shrinking downloads, smooth scrolling on modest phones and careful use of data.
