Customers tell you what is wrong with your product every day, through support chats, calls, app store reviews, social media comments and agents in the field. Product teams that listen systematically improve faster. Adverts for product operations and analyst roles mention feedback loops, first level support and resolving support tickets. Turning scattered complaints into clear evidence is a valuable skill.
Collect from many channels
Feedback arrives in different places:
- WhatsApp and phone support.
- App store and Google Play reviews.
- Social media comments and messages.
- Agents, field officers or sales staff who hear complaints in person.
- Short surveys after a key action, such as one question by SMS.
No single channel tells the full story. People who write reviews may be the most frustrated; people who call may be the least confident with technology.
Record it consistently
A simple Google Sheet works. For each piece of feedback, record the date, channel, user type, a short summary in your own words, a category (for example payments, sign up, confusing wording), and how serious it is. Consistent categories let you count.
Find patterns
Once a week, sort and count by category. Ask:
- Which problems come up most often?
- Which ones block people completely?
- Is anything new or growing?
A single loud complaint is worth noting. Twenty quiet ones about the same thing are worth acting on.
