Why interface design matters
Once the structure works, people still need screens that are clear, comfortable and trustworthy. Interface design is where your wireframes become polished, consistent screens that developers can build. It is the part of the job most visible in a portfolio, and adverts for UI designer and product designer roles commonly ask for it.
A good interface is not about decoration. It helps people see what matters, understand what to do next and trust that their money, data or time is safe. In fintech especially, a clean and consistent interface signals trust.
What this section covers
- Design tool basics. How to use a browser based design tool with a free plan, such as Figma or Penpot: frames, layers, auto layout, components and simple prototypes.
- Typography, colour and layout. How to create clear hierarchy with type sizes, spacing, alignment and colour, with enough contrast to read outdoors in strong sun.
- Mobile and responsive layouts. Platform conventions for Android and iOS, touch targets for thumbs, one handed use, and how a layout adapts from a small phone to a laptop.
- Components and design systems. Reusable buttons, inputs and cards that keep a product consistent and make developers' work easier.
