Why this matters
Writing is part of almost every job: emails to clients, WhatsApp messages to customers, reports for managers, posts for a business page, applications for jobs. AI can help you write faster and more clearly, especially if English is your second or third language. But clients and employers can often tell when text is lazy AI output: too flowery, too general, and not quite true. The skill is using AI to write better, not just more.
What AI is good at in writing
- Turning rough notes or a voice note into a clear draft.
- Rewriting for a different reader: more formal for a manager, simpler for a customer.
- Fixing grammar, spelling and awkward sentences.
- Shortening long messages.
- Suggesting a structure for a report or proposal.
- Giving several options for a headline or opening line.
Keeping it yours and keeping it true
- Give it your facts. Do not ask AI to invent your experience, results or qualifications. On a CV, every line must be true; employers check, and false claims can end a job.
- Cut the fancy words. If the draft says "delve", "unparalleled" or "in today's fast paced world", rewrite in plain words you would actually use.
- Read it aloud. Does it sound like you? Would you say this to the person's face?
