"Production" means the real, live system that real customers use. Code that runs perfectly on your laptop faces new challenges there: many users at once, attackers probing for weaknesses, power cuts at the data centre, a provider going down at month end. The adverts we read asked for testing, deployment, cloud experience, debugging and security awareness, even in junior roles, because these habits are what make a service trustworthy.
What changes in production
- Real data and money. Mistakes now affect real people. A bug that marks an unpaid order as paid costs the business.
- Strangers on the internet. Your API is public. Automated bots scan the internet and may try common passwords and known attacks soon after you go live.
- Things fail. Servers restart, databases fill up, networks drop. You need to notice quickly and recover.
- You cannot see the screen. When a customer in Wa says "it did not work", you rely on logs and monitoring to find out why.
What this section covers
- Security basics: common attacks, keeping secrets safe and handling personal data responsibly under Ghana's data protection law.
- Automated testing: code that checks your code, especially around money and permissions, so you can change things with confidence.
