Editing is where raw clips become a story. It is also one of the most requested skills in the adverts we studied: Ghanaian companies ask for content creators who can edit reels and short videos, and some remote agencies hire editors in Ghana to cut TikTok, Reels and Shorts for clients abroad. Some of these adverts name free phone editors such as CapCut or InShot, alongside desktop tools like Premiere Pro.
You can edit professionally on a phone
Free phone editors can trim clips, arrange them on a timeline, add music, voice over, text, captions and transitions, adjust colour and export in the right shape for each platform. For short vertical videos, many working editors use a phone or a phone style app. For longer YouTube videos with many layers, a laptop becomes more comfortable. If you do not own one, a school lab, library or community centre with computers can help when you need it, and free desktop editors exist for when you get there.
Choose one editor and learn it deeply
Examples of free editors include CapCut, VN and InShot. They are examples, not endorsements. Some features or exports may need payment or add a watermark, so check the settings before a client job. Whichever you choose, learn these core actions until they feel automatic:
- Import clips and arrange them in order.
- Split and trim clips.
- Add and adjust music and voice over.
- Add text and captions.
- Adjust brightness, contrast and colour.
- Export at the right size and quality.
