Sound and words can make an ordinary edit feel finished. Remote editing adverts open to Ghana mention captions, sound design and motion text, and Ghanaian content adverts mention captions and thumbnails. Done badly, though, music drowns voices, text is unreadable and the video gets muted or blocked for copyright.
Music
- Use music you have the right to use. Popular songs from the radio or another creator's video usually belong to someone else. Uploading them can get your video muted, blocked, or your account warned. Free options include the YouTube Audio Library and music offered inside platform apps for use on that platform. Check the licence and any credit the track asks for.
- Keep music under the voice. When someone is speaking, lower the music so the words are clear. Raise it when there is no speech.
- Match the mood. Upbeat music for a product launch, calm music for a health message.
Voice over
A voice over is narration recorded separately and laid over the pictures. It is useful when the people on screen are not speaking, or to explain clearly.
- Record in a quiet room with soft furnishings, phone close to your mouth but slightly to the side to avoid puffs of air.
- Read your script a few times first, then speak a little slower than normal and smile; it changes how you sound.
- Record several takes and pick the best. Many free editors let you record directly onto the timeline.
