Many young people in Ghana see creators online and imagine instant money. The truth is more ordinary and more hopeful: content skills can earn real income, but usually step by step, through clients and jobs, long before any platform pays you. This section is about earning honestly, protecting yourself and respecting other people's rights.
What employers and clients want to see
Across the Ghanaian and remote adverts we studied, a few expectations repeat beyond camera and editing skills:
- A portfolio or samples of real work.
- Reliability: meeting deadlines, communicating clearly and organising files.
- Understanding of brands: following a brief, matching a brand's voice and working with a marketing team.
- Respect for rules: copyright, platform guidelines and, in some adverts, data protection.
None of these need expensive gear. They need professional habits.
Ways people earn from content
You will look at these honestly in a later lesson. In short:
- Client work for local businesses, churches, schools, events and NGOs.
- Jobs as an in house content creator, videographer or social media content officer.
