Why this matters
Data science adverts in Ghana almost always ask for Python, SQL and statistics together, and most ask for a degree with a strong maths or numbers component. This track builds on that base rather than repeating it. Starting without the base is the most common reason people stall, so check yourself honestly now.
The base: the Data Analyst track
If you have not finished it, start with the SydCrest Data Analyst track. You should be comfortable with everything it teaches, especially:
- tidy data, cleaning and checking records
- means, medians, percentages and spotting a biased sample
- SQL queries with joins, grouping and aggregation
- basic Python and pandas: loading a CSV, filtering, grouping, simple charts
- collecting survey data responsibly
This track does not reteach those skills. When a lesson says "group by district", it assumes you can already do it.
The maths you need
You do not need to be a mathematician, but you must be calm with numbers. Check that you can:
- work with fractions, percentages and powers without a calculator panic
- read a formula such as
mean = sum of values / number of valuesand apply it - understand that a square root undoes squaring, which matters for standard deviation
