The skills in this roadmap can earn you money in two ways. You can grow your own business, or you can be hired by a business that needs someone to sell, serve customers and manage online orders. Many people do both: they work in sales while building a side business, or they run a business and take on freelance work helping others sell online. Sales and business development adverts are a common sight on Ghanaian job sites such as Jobberman, and many now ask for exactly the skills you have practised here.
Two paths, one set of skills
Running your own business means you choose what to sell, set your prices and keep the profit. It also means you carry the risk and must be disciplined with money and time.
Working for a business means a regular income, structure and the chance to learn from others. Roles include shop attendant, sales representative, sales and marketing officer, telesales, field sales, online sales or social media sales officer, and ecommerce officer. Entry level roles often ask for customer service, communication, record keeping, stock management, comfort with WhatsApp and social media, and basic computer skills like email and spreadsheets.
Your experience counts
If you have run even a small online business while following this roadmap, you have real evidence of skills employers want. You have priced products, served customers, handled payments, kept records and sold through chat and social media. That is far more convincing than saying "I am hardworking".
