A live link you can share on WhatsApp or put on your CV is far more convincing than screenshots. Several adverts mention deployment and CI tools, and putting projects online is a skill in itself. The good news: you can host frontend projects for free.
Static sites and free hosts
A static site is a set of files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images) that a host simply serves. Most of your portfolio projects are static, or can be built into static files.
Free options include:
- GitHub Pages: serves static sites straight from a GitHub repository.
- Platforms such as Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare Pages: connect your GitHub repository and they build and deploy automatically on every push. They support React, Vite and Next.js projects.
All of these give you HTTPS for free, which is required for service workers and builds trust.
Free plans have limits and terms that change. Read each host's current free plan page before you rely on it.
Deploying a plain HTML site with GitHub Pages
- Push your project to a GitHub repository with an at the top level.
