Almost every business in Ghana now sells or announces something on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, and they need graphics every week. Adverts from companies, NGOs and agencies regularly list social media graphics as a core task, and it is also the easiest design service to offer a local shop as a freelancer.
Get the size right
Each platform shows images in certain shapes. Common sizes in pixels are:
- Square post: 1080 by 1080.
- Portrait post: 1080 by 1350, which takes up more of the screen in a feed.
- Status and Stories: 1080 by 1920, a tall shape that fills a phone screen.
Platforms change their layouts from time to time, so check the current guidance when a client needs something specific. On Status and Stories, keep important text away from the very top and bottom, where names, buttons and reply boxes cover the image.
One message per graphic
A social graphic is seen for about as long as a thumb takes to scroll past. Give each graphic one job: announce the sale, show the new product, share the event date. Use a short headline, a strong image and a clear next step, such as "Order on WhatsApp" with the number. Put longer details in the caption, not in the graphic.
Keep files light
Many of your client's customers are on prepaid data and older phones. Export social graphics as JPG for photos or PNG for designs with sharp text, at the size the platform needs, not bigger. A huge file wastes data and may be compressed anyway.
