Be honest with yourself from the start: in Ghana, true entry level product manager jobs are rare. Most product manager roles ask for several years of experience, and remote roles open to Ghana based applicants tend to be senior. That is not a reason to give up. It is a reason to plan a realistic route.
The realistic picture
The roles more open to people early in their careers tend to sit next door to product management:
- Business analyst and information systems analyst roles in banks, telecoms and manufacturers.
- Product operations, product support and implementation roles in fintech and software companies.
- Product analyst and data or M&E roles, including in NGOs running digital programmes.
- A smaller number of associate product roles, often at companies selling software to other businesses.
Even roles labelled entry level often ask for a degree or some relevant work experience. Your aim is to show the skills and evidence that make an employer willing to take a chance on you.
What employers look for
Employers hiring for these roles often ask for the same skills: gathering requirements, writing user stories and documentation, testing before release, working with data in spreadsheets, and communicating clearly with different people. Every one of those has a lesson in this roadmap, and every practice task you have completed is evidence.
