Interviews for product, business analyst and product operations roles test how you think, not just what you know. You will often be asked to work through a problem out loud. The good news is that the practice tasks in this roadmap are exactly the preparation you need.
Common question types
- Product sense. "How would you improve a mobile money app you use?" or "Design a product to help farmers sell produce."
- Requirements. "Write a user story and acceptance criteria for resetting a PIN."
- Prioritisation. "Here are five feature requests. Which would you build first and why?"
- Metrics. "How would you measure whether our new savings feature is working?" or "Sign ups rose but deposits fell. What would you investigate?"
- Process. For BA roles: "Walk me through how you would gather requirements for a new loan application process."
- Behavioural. "Tell me about a time you disagreed with someone" or "a time you made a mistake."
A simple structure for product questions
When asked to improve or design something, avoid jumping straight to features. Work through:
- Clarify. Ask a question or two: which users, what goal, any constraints?
