Applications for social media roles usually ask for a CV, a short cover letter or message, links to pages you have managed and sometimes a test task, such as a one week content plan for the company or replies to sample customer messages. Each part is a chance to show that you understand their business, not just social media in general.
Read the advert closely
Before writing anything, list:
- The tasks. Posting, inbox, moderation, reporting, live streaming, influencer work, ads support.
- The platforms and tools named. For example Meta Business Suite, TikTok, Canva, CapCut.
- The requirements. Qualifications, experience, location, languages.
- The organisation. What it sells or does, and who its audience is.
Then look at the organisation's current pages. What is good? What is missing? This research shapes your whole application.
Tailor your CV
Keep it to one or two pages. Near the top, list the pages you have managed with one line each on what you achieved. Match the advert's words honestly: if it asks for "community management" and you handled the church group's comments and members, use that phrase. Include your tools, languages such as Dagbani, Hausa, Twi or Ewe if relevant, and any certificates, but lead with evidence.
A short cover message
Three short paragraphs are enough:
