"What should I post today?" is the question that kills most business pages. Content pillars answer it in advance. A pillar is a theme the brand returns to again and again, chosen because it supports the goal and suits the audience. With three to five pillars, you never start from a blank page, and every post has a reason to exist.
Choosing pillars
Start from the onboarding brief. Ask: what do customers need to know, believe or feel before they buy? Typical pillars for a small business include:
- Products and offers. What you sell, prices, new stock, bundles.
- How to use it. Tips, demonstrations, care instructions, recipes.
- Proof. Customer stories, reviews (with permission), before and after.
- Behind the scenes. The people, the process, the shop, the farm.
- Community. Local events, holidays, the town, causes the business supports.
Pick three to five that fit the client. A school might choose admissions, pupils' achievements (with parents' permission), teaching and learning, and school events. An NGO might choose impact stories, how to get help, volunteer calls and partner news.
Balance the pillars
If every post sells, followers tune out. If no post sells, the page entertains but does not earn. A simple balance is to make roughly a quarter of posts directly about buying, and the rest helpful, human or community posts that earn attention for those sales posts. Adjust the balance after you see results.
