Clients and employers want proof. A certificate says you studied; a work sample shows you can do the job. When you have no paid experience yet, a small, well organised set of samples and a clear profile can be the difference between being ignored and being interviewed.
What makes a good VA portfolio
You do not need a website. A shared Google Drive folder or a single Google Doc with links works well and costs nothing. Include four to six samples that match the tasks in adverts:
- Inbox system: screenshots of your practice labels and filters, with a short explanation.
- Calendar week: a screenshot of a well organised practice calendar.
- Document: a template you made, such as meeting minutes, and a filled example as a PDF.
- Spreadsheet: your order tracker with formulas and a filter.
- Research summary: a one page comparison with sources and a recommendation.
- Procedure: an SOP someone else followed successfully.
- Customer replies or a content calendar, if you want customer support or social media work.
The practice tasks in this roadmap were designed to produce these samples.
Keep it honest and private
Use imaginary businesses or get permission before showing real work. Remove real names, phone numbers, emails and amounts from anything you share. Never claim experience you do not have or invent reviews. If a sample was practice, say so: "Practice project: order tracker for an imaginary smock seller." Clients respect honesty, and it protects you.
