Why it matters
Knowing the skills is one thing; getting the first job is another. Cloud and DevOps titles often ask for experience, so your first role may have a different name. This lesson helps you search smartly, present your work well and use the role you have now as a route in.
Titles to search for
Search for more than "cloud engineer":
- Cloud support engineer or associate
- Junior DevOps engineer or DevOps intern
- IT infrastructure or systems administrator
- IT operations engineer or NOC (network operations centre) analyst
- Site reliability engineering intern
- Technical support engineer at a software or cloud company
Banks, telcos, fintechs, software companies, consultancies and managed service providers in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi all hire for these roles. Remote boards that welcome Africa based applicants list cloud support and junior DevOps roles too.
Routes in
- Internships and national service. Ask IT, infrastructure and software teams directly whether they take national service personnel or interns, and say what you can already do.
- Free training cohorts. Some employers and training partners run free cloud training with placement support. Check the organisation's own website before applying, never pay to apply for a "free" programme and be wary of anyone promising guaranteed jobs.
