Why this matters
Security employers in Ghana and remote employers abroad want evidence that you can do the work: investigate an alert, write a clear note, explain a risk, behave ethically. Certificates can help, but proof of practice and good communication carry great weight. This section helps you get there on modest hardware and a tight budget.
An honest picture of entry routes
Look at junior security adverts and you will notice that many "entry level" roles still ask for some IT experience. That is why this track builds on IT support. Common routes in include:
- IT support or help desk roles where you take on security tasks, then move into a security team.
- National service or internships in IT, IT audit or technology risk units at banks, telcos, government bodies and audit firms.
- Fraud monitoring or operations roles at telcos and fintechs, where knowledge of MoMo fraud and SIM swap is directly useful.
- Level 1 SOC analyst roles at companies running their own SOC or at managed security providers, sometimes remote.
Some cohort based programmes and microdegree schemes in Ghana include cybersecurity. This roadmap can help you prepare for their applications and get more from them if you are accepted.
