Why this matters
A portfolio shows an employer what you can do before they meet you. For data roles, two or three clear case studies are usually more convincing than a long list of courses. Using Ghanaian data makes your work instantly relevant to local employers, and shows you understand the context they work in.
What a case study contains
Each case study should answer five things, in this order:
- The question. One sentence, such as "Which regions saw the biggest change in school enrolment between two census years?"
- The data. Where it came from, what it covers and its limits.
- The method. What you cleaned, which tools you used, and how you calculated your results.
- The findings. Two or three key results with one or two clear charts.
- What it means. A short recommendation or next question, plus honest caveats.
Keep each one short enough to read on a phone in a few minutes.
Finding data
- Ghana Statistical Service (statsghana.gov.gh) publishes census and survey reports and tables. Choose a table, copy it into Google Sheets, tidy it and analyse it.
- Kaggle Datasets host many public datasets, some about Ghana and West Africa. Check the source and licence before using one.
