Applying for a job usually means attaching a CV and a photo of a certificate. Registering for a course means filling in an online form. Field jobs with NGOs often involve entering survey answers into a form on a phone or tablet all day. Office jobs involve looking things up quickly and correctly. All of these come down to three skills: handling files, filling in forms and finding information.
This section teaches those skills on the phone or computer you already have, with tips for both.
What this section covers
- Photos, documents and files. Where your downloads go, how to make a clear scan of a paper document, how to give files sensible names and how to send them.
- Filling in online forms. How to read a form, fill it in correctly, check it and submit it, whether it is a job application, a course registration or a field survey.
- Searching and judging information. How to choose good search words and decide whether a website can be trusted.
Phone or computer, the same ideas
DMP week 1 teaches files and folders on a computer. The ideas are the same on a phone: a file has a name, it lives in a folder, and you can find, move, rename, share and delete it. If you learn this on your phone first, the computer version will feel familiar instead of strange. If you already use a computer, practise there and you will arrive a step ahead.
