For most design jobs in Ghana, the first thing an employer or client asks for is not a certificate but your portfolio. Adverts from print shops, agencies, NGOs and companies regularly ask candidates to attach or link to samples of their work, and some say the portfolio is what decides who they hire. This section helps you turn what you have learned into work that pays.
Three ways designers earn
- Employment. A full time role at a print shop, branding company, agency, NGO or in house marketing team. You get regular pay and learn from colleagues, but many advertised roles are in Accra and Tema.
- Freelancing. Working for your own clients: shops, churches, schools, event planners and, later, clients abroad. You choose your work and can start from anywhere, including the northern regions, but you must find clients and manage money yourself.
- A mix. Many designers work for a print shop or company and take freelance jobs on the side, or freelance while applying for roles.
There is no single right route. Start where you are and use each project to build evidence.
What this section covers
