If you want a design job with regular pay, it helps to know where roles appear and what employers look for. Ghanaian design adverts come from print shops, branding and souvenir companies, advertising agencies, in house marketing teams at companies such as real estate firms, car dealers and media businesses, and NGOs and schools.
Where to look
- Job sites. Ghanaian job sites have Creative and Design categories. Search for titles such as Graphic Designer, Junior Graphic Designer, Visual Designer, Multimedia Designer and Creative Designer.
- Company and NGO websites. Organisations often post roles on their own careers pages.
- Print shops and agencies directly. Many smaller employers never advertise. Visiting with your portfolio on your phone, or sending a short message, can work.
- Your network. Tell teachers, church members, friends and former clients you are looking.
Many advertised design roles are based in Accra and Tema. In the northern regions, design work more often comes through print shops, churches, schools, NGOs and freelance clients, so a mix of local work and remote applications can make sense.
Read the advert carefully
Note the tools, tasks and experience the advert asks for. Many adverts ask for a degree, diploma or a year or two of experience, but also say a strong portfolio matters. If you meet most requirements and your portfolio matches the work, apply. Adapt your portfolio to show the kind of work the employer does: print pieces for a print shop, social content for an agency.
