Why this matters
In Ghana the phone is often the main work device. Field officers collect survey data on Android tablets, sales staff take orders on WhatsApp, managers read email on their phones, and MoMo runs on everyone's handset. Adverts for IT support mention supporting mobile devices, and some name mobile device management tools. Phone support is also something you can practise fully on the device in your hand.
Accounts
An Android phone is tied to a Google account, which controls the Play Store, contacts, backups and the find, lock and erase feature. Work phones may also have a Microsoft 365 or other work account for email. Many "my email stopped working" calls are really account problems: a changed password, an expired sign in or the wrong account selected. Check Settings, then Passwords and accounts (the name varies by maker).
Storage and performance
A full phone is slow, crashes apps and cannot update. Check Settings, then Storage. Common fixes: clear WhatsApp media you no longer need, move photos to a backup, uninstall unused apps, clear an app's cache. Restarting a phone clears many temporary problems.
Updates and safe apps
- Keep Android system updates and app updates installed; they fix security holes.
- Install apps only from the Google Play Store or the organisation's approved source. Apps sent as files on WhatsApp (APK files) are a common way scammers take over phones.
- Google Play Protect scans apps for harmful behaviour. Leave it on.
