Busy business pages attract trouble: spam links, insults, fake giveaways and, most dangerous of all, impostors. An impostor copies the brand's name and photos, comments under real posts or messages followers, and asks for MoMo payments for goods that will never arrive. Customers who lose money often blame the real business. Moderation protects them and the brand.
Tools on Facebook and Instagram
Meta gives Page managers several moderation tools. Names and menus shift, but the ideas stay:
- Hide a comment. The comment disappears from everyone except the person who wrote it and their friends. Useful for spam and scams, because the scammer does not realise and does not repost elsewhere.
- Delete a comment. Removes it completely. Use for clearly harmful content.
- Ban or block a person. Stops a person or account from commenting or messaging the Page.
- Profanity filter. Hides comments with commonly reported offensive words.
- Blocked keywords. You add your own list of words, phrases or emojis, and comments containing them are hidden automatically. Add words scammers use, such as "promo agent" or a known scam phone number. These filters apply to comments on the Page's own posts, including its ads.
- Report. Sends the comment or account to the platform for review against its rules.
