Why freelancing can help
Before or alongside a full time job, small freelance projects give you real clients, real problems and real case studies. Many shops, schools, churches, NGOs and small businesses around Tamale, Bolgatanga and Wa need simple digital help: a clear website, a menu for WhatsApp ordering, a booking form or a USSD flow for a cooperative. Doing this work well builds your portfolio, your reputation and some income.
What you can offer
Start with what you can do well:
- a simple one page website or landing page design
- a WhatsApp ordering menu and order form for a chop bar or shop
- improving a confusing form, such as a school admission or event registration form
- a USSD or SMS flow design for a cooperative or association (developers or a provider build it)
- a small usability review of an existing website or app, with clear recommendations
You may also be asked for logos, flyers and social media graphics. These are graphic design rather than UI/UX, but free tools such as Canva can help. Be honest about what you do best.
Agree the scope before you start
Many freelance problems come from unclear agreements. Before any work, write down and share, even in a WhatsApp message:
- what you will deliver, such as "design for a 3 page website: home, menu and contact"
- what is not included, such as building the site, writing all the text or taking photos
