Once you have some real work to show, it is time to apply. Ghanaian employers advertise marketing roles on job boards such as Jobberman, on their own career pages, through recruiters and through word of mouth. Some ask for Google or Meta certifications. This lesson covers certificates, CVs, applications and staying safe from job scams.
Certificates worth your time
Free courses from the platforms themselves are respected because they teach the tools employers use:
- Google Skillshop offers free courses that lead to certifications in Google Ads (including Search) and Google Analytics, plus training on Google Business Profile. Skillshop certifications are free to take at the time of writing, but check the course page before you start.
- Meta Blueprint offers free courses on Facebook, Instagram and Meta ads. Its formal certification exams usually charge a fee, so check before you register and do not feel you must pay to start.
Add completed certifications to your CV with the month you earned them. They show initiative, but they work best alongside real portfolio work.
A CV that shows real work
- Keep it short. One page is usually enough for a junior role.
- Start with a summary. Two lines on what you do: "Social media and content marketer in Tamale who helps small businesses sell on WhatsApp and Facebook."
- "Set up WhatsApp Business for a basket weaving group and created quick replies, cutting reply time from next day to under an hour."
